About Rick Doblin, Ph.D

While many organizations are rising to the surface in the midst of this psychedelic renaissance, MAPS stands tall with strong foundations thanks to the visionary and dedicated leadership of its founder Rick Doblin.

In 1983, Rick attended the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where he received his doctorate in Public Policy. At a time when psychedelics were heavily stigmatized, Rick wrote his doctorate promoting the regulation of psychedelics, in addition to a thesis on cannabis use in cancer patients.

Since then Rick has been at the forefront of the psychedelic frontier, with MAPS becoming one of the strongest vehicles for change in the space. Psychedelic research is very expensive and in a focussed effort to make MDMA a medicine, MAPS has raised around $50 million USD to push this needle forward. In fact, only a month ago MAPS announced that it had completed its Capstone Project, which brought in a staggering $30 million dollars in less than five months.

It is this exciting development that Rick will discuss in the next instalment of Examining the Psychedelic Renaissance – Season 2. Rick will discuss what it took to reach this amazing fundraising milestone, in addition to the future implications for MDMA-assisted psychotherapy – now that the necessary funds have been raised to make this medicine a reality. Stay tuned, you’re not going to want to miss this one.
